Frequently Asked Questions

What is SkinVision Pro?

SkinVision Pro is a new online platform that facilitates the connection and communication between doctors and their patients. Through the platform, doctors can monitor the development of suspicious skin conditions via pictures taken by patients with their smartphones using the SkinVision app.

What is SkinVision?

SkinVision is an awareness and tracking solution that supports consumers and patients in their quest to identify and track suspicious lesions on their skin. The app helps people take high-quality pictures of their moles, while an online assessment helps them understand the risks associated with particular conditions. Users also have the ability to create a personal gallery, which enables them to compare over time and share photos with their doctor. The convenience of the smartphone app makes accurate skin monitoring easy and routine.

What are the benefits of using SkinVision Pro?

The key benefits of SkinVision Pro are:

  • Patient acquisition through doctor availability and visibility to users in the app
  • Allows doctors to provide remote medical support and treatment advice on a simple and user-friendly platform
  • Enables doctors to see more patients on a regular basis to improve long-term monitoring
  • Access to a platform that facilitates doctor-patient interaction

Why should I choose SkinVision Pro?

SkinVision is part of the emerging wave of healthtech applications that allow patients to take their health into their own hands. The number of SkinVision users has tripled each year since the app was launched in 2012, and currently numbers some 600k+ users. To date, more than one million images have been taken with SkinVision's built in camera functionality. SkinVision's user-friendly design prioritises ease of use and engagement, with the aim of making skin monitoring easy and routine. SkinVision users seek professional advice through SkinVision's paid professional plans, where interaction can take place with a health professional in a structured and consistent way. SkinVision also fosters strong links to the dermatological community and our scientific board comprises of leading skin cancer specialists from Mayo Clinic, LMU and St. George Hospital in Sydney.

What does SkinVision set out to achieve?

A study conducted by Euromelanoma in March 2015 indicated that 54% of melanoma-related deaths could have been prevented. As such, SkinVision is interested in helping people understand changes to their skin's condition over time and in decreasing the incidence of skin cancers and other skin conditions around the world. We do this through our proprietary smartphone application which offers a set of online tools which allow users to monitor their skin's condition. As an added feature, we also seek to connect patients with doctors so that users can track their moles and other skin conditions with the added benefit of a qualified medical opinion.

How is SkinVision looking at the sensitivities of the ratings?

Our primary focus is to raise awareness so that our users download the app and track changes to their skin's condition over time. With a high degree of accuracy, SkinVision's unique algorithm is able to identify potential cancerous risks presented by users. If a user receives a red rating, we advise them to store the image, track the area of concern over time, and in case of serious concern, visit a doctor. When customers receive a green rating, we ask them to store and track their skin over time as moles rate green still have the potential to develop into a more serious risk. Based on actual feedback and science, we continuously improve the algorithm to optimise it for detection of different types of skin cancers.

What is the technology behind the algorithm?

In short, the algorithm recognizes potential non-natural growth of moles. As skin cancers grow chaotically, non-natural growth can be an indication that something is wrong. SkinVision uses fractal geometry, a well documented mathematical methodology for medical imaging that is widely use to simulate natural growth in biology to identify characteristics of non-natural growth.

How long do I have to close a case?

You have 48 hours to close a case.

How long is the contract?

The contract is an annual contract. We offer patients a long-term relationship with their doctor through the online monitoring service.

What is the notice period?

There is a 60 days notice period to end your contract. Please read the Terms and Conditions for more information.

How long can a case be open?

A case can be open for 15 days. Within the platform, you will see a countdown, revealing the number of days that the case remains open.

Can you diagnose a suspicious mole online without a dermoscopy picture?

No, we believe that you can't diagnose a mole or melanoma online. SkinVision provides users with a tool to assess the risk of a mole. Based on this risk, users are able to get to the doctor in time to identify the correct treatment course.
